Vent Safe

2020 West Virginia Makes Festival

People's Choice Award Champion...!

Vent Safe is a hidden safe that is camouflaged and can easily be put into any home wall. It serves as a storage compartment for any of your valuable items but looks like a simple HVAC vent. I came up with this idea when our house got broken into and my mom’s jewelry was stolen from her jewelry box. However, the hidden jewelry box that she had on the wall, that looked like a picture frame, was not touched. So, I began brainstorming on how you could disguise a storage solution for valuables.

Spectraswitch Optical Switching System

2020 West Virginia Makes Festival

First Place Adult Category Champion...!

For a $300 cash Grand Prize, and a beautiful 2020 WV Makes Festival Trophy!

I have developed a fiber optic switch system that uses different reflected wavelengths of light and maintains a presence of light in all switch positions. It is a non-powered optical switch which means there are no electrical wires or dangerous currents running to the switch. My prototype is an LED light bulb that is modified to include the optical controller that receives the reflected light or wavelength from the switch and turns on or off the light. A three-position switch is also available.
