The WV Makes Festival!

RCBI and statewide partners present the seventh annual West Virginia Makes Festival, a celebration of ingenuity and creativity, throughout the month of October!

The month-long celebration featured the following events:

  • Maker Master Classes

    • October 5th: 6-7:15 pm
      • 3D Design & Printing: From entry-level Maker, educator, to Design Engineer; tools to produce outcomes in your 3d printing practice!
      • Cost is $25 and includes the creation of a small, custom 3D printed object of your own design!
        • Produced objects will be available for your pickup from RCBI Huntington, or mailed to your registration address following the event
        • Conducted over Zoom, access to a computer capable of running the Google Chrome browser is required, use of mouse is recommended
    • October 19th: 6-7:15 pm
      • 2D Design & Laser Cutting: Thinking Outside the Box; forging a custom storage/organization solution using open-source, free tools!
      • Cost is $25 and includes the creation of your own small, custom 2D laser-cut item of your own design!
        • Produced objects will be available for your pickup from RCBI Huntington, or mailed to your registration address following the event
        • Conducted over Zoom, access to a computer capable of running the Google Chrome browser is required, use of mouse is recommended

Design Challenge 

      • October 1st - 20th
        • Our annual Design Challenge provided makers the opportunity to demonstrate new ideas and skills, and rewarded their creative inspirations! Hobbyists, inventors, enthusiasts, artists and students of all ages who entered the Design Challenge were eligible for one of several prizes recognized on the Victor's Circle page linked below...!
      • Tuesday, October 27th
      • Design Challenge: Winners were Announced online during a Live Event!!

Competitors who entered their innovations have submitted a video no more that 3 minutes, explaining:

1.) Problem Statement & Example
      - What needs to be fixed/improved and why?

2.) Solution Statement & Example
      - Your unique solution and how you made it!

3.) Impact Statement
      - What difference can this innovation make?!

Voters participated by Text Message for the People's Choice Award CHAMPION -- who will will a 3D Printer & 3D Printing Starter pack... AND entered the school of their choice to be awarded a 3D Printer & Starter Package of their own...!
